Dive Computers
Track depth, bottom time, and safety-stop reminders at a glance. Our dive computers range from fuss-free wrist models that replace paper tables to fully air-integrated units that even log your heart rate. Pick the screen and features that match your dive style—tropical vacation, kelp-forest weekend, or tec course in the future—and spend more time looking at fish, less at gauges.
FAQ: Dive Computer
Choosing Your Dive Computer
- Wrist dive computer or console? Wrist units wear like a watch and keep both hands free. Console pucks bolt onto your hose so everything—pressure gauge and computer—stays in one place.
- Need air integration? Add a wireless transmitter and the computer shows real-time tank pressure plus “minutes left,” so you surface with plenty of reserve.
- Easy readouts first. Big digits and backlighting matter more than fancy menus when you’re hovering at 50 ft.
- Battery style. Replaceable coin cells are handy in remote spots; USB or wireless charging is great for daily boat trips.
- Upgrade path. Most mid-level computers let you switch on nitrox or pair a transmitter later, so you can start simple and grow.
Need a quick rundown or transmitter pairing demo? Visit us in Montclair or call (909) 621-4171—our instructors will walk you through all the ins and outs of the different dive computers.
Why use a dive computer instead of tables?
Tables guess; computers measure. A dive computer tracks your real-time depth and ascent speed, then tells you exactly when to surface or stop, so you spend more time exploring and less time doing math on the boat.
Wrist dive computer or console—what’s better?
A wrist dive computer wears like a chunky watch, leaving your hands free for photos and inflator checks. Console units clip to your hose and keep pressure gauge + computer in one place—handy if you rent gear often. Pick the style that fits your routine.
What is an air-integrated computer and do I need one?
An air-integrated computer pairs with a wireless tank transmitter and shows live pressure plus “minutes left.” It’s great for busy photographers and new divers who want one glance-at-all info, but a basic non-AI model works fine if you’re happy checking a separate SPG.
Can I add air integration later?
Many mid-range wrist units accept a transmitter upgrade whenever you’re ready. Entry-level “puck” models usually can’t, so look for “AI-ready” in the spec sheet if you think you’ll want the option.
How often should I change batteries or update software?
Swap coin-cell batteries about once a year (or recharge after every dive trip for USB models), rinse in fresh water after each dive, and install free firmware updates as the maker releases them—usually once or twice a year for new features and bug fixes.
